Bookfest @ Singapore 2007

Halo friends,

I was at the Popular's Bookfest @ Singapore 2007 on Sunday 23rd Dec and thought wanted to share with you in case you have not been there before or heard of it before (especially friends from other countries).

The Bookfest is one of Singapore's largest and most successful book fairs and happended at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre from 14 to 23 Dec 2007, cooupying an area od 120,000 sq ft, showcased the best and latest collection of books, stationary, educational reads, electronic and multimedia products.

The inaugural BookFest in 2006 was a big success and attracted close to 320,000 visitors. Seems like this year there are more, thou i do not have the exact numbers.

Durring my recent trip there, it took me more than 4 hours in order to browse through the sections, and yah, i only browse through, and it took me 4 hours to finish one round of it. Spent most of my time at the Self-Improvement and Motivational Book Section where you find famous books/authors such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, Tony Buzan Mindmap, Anthony Robbins Unlimited Power & The Giants Within, as well as Relationship guru, Dr. John Gray, etc and many more.

In the end, i did not purchase any books (cos i have couple more to finish up at home) but spend bucks on Multimedia Headphone Set and a self-adhesive pin-up board.

So, see ypu again BookFest in 2008!

Halo,

Perharps another one of Terrys..

Lyrics:

I thought that I
Was over you
But its true, so true

I love you even more
Than I did before
But darling, what can I do

For you don't love me
And I'll always be

Crying, over you
Crying, over you
Yes, now you're gone
And from this moment on

I will be crying
Crying, crying, crying
Yeah, crying, crying
Over You

Pyramid to have Copyrights

Hi,

I was reading through today local papers and came across an article that i find it so amusing. Decided that i must share with you 1st hand.

Egypt is planning to pass a law that would allow them to collect royalty payments from anyone found making copies of the country's ancient monuments or museum pieces, including the pyramids. According to reports, Egypt wanted to own the copyright to its historic monuments and would use any money raised to pay for the upkeep of its most prestigious tourists sites.

It seems that the law had been agreed by a ministerial committee and would go before the Parliament, where it was expected to be passed easily. It would then apply anywhere in the world. Nothing was mentioned on how Cairo (Egypt's provincial capital) would begin the fraught task of tackling any infringements of copyrights.

The law will apply to fullscale, precise copies of any musuem objects or "commercial us" of ancient monumnents, including the pyramids or the sphinx. They have commented that it will aplly even it is for private use, they would need permission from the Egypt government.

This law would not prevent artists from drawing images of the monuments or historic sites, as long as the images were not exact copies. Gosh, it seems that we may have to pay in future when we wanna take a picture of the Pyramids. How will this going to benefit the tourism industry of Egypt and its economy, i ponder.

Alien Vs Predator 2

Halo Universe,

I am waiting anxiously for the movie Alien Vs Predator 2 (AVP2).
It was always nice to see two blockbuster characters challeging themselves and also the human races.

Before we have the movie being screened, enjoy the Video Trailer for now:

Movie watched - I Am Legend

Hi Universe,

On X'Mas eve, i managed to get a ticket to watched the sneak preview of the much anticpated I AM LEGEND by Will Smith. However, it ended with much disappointment for me after the show. It did not create that kind of WOW effect on me for this so-called block-buster for the end from Hollywood.

The show just seems to be too short for a block-buster. Besides that i thot the plot of the show is too simple w/o much substance. The ending was also too abrupt to have any long lasting effect on audience.

Here is the trailer of the movie - and it seems most of the interesting actions and scence of the movie are shown in the trailer and not much more.

However, i must said that Will Smith is indeed a great actor. He was able to bring out the Desperation, Courage and his Passion & Drive in this movie. Well Done Will!

If you are Santa, You Should Be In A Sleigh

Hi,

Another interesting article to share with you that i came across lately.

Not even Santa Claus is safe as the rowdy Brazilian City of Rio de Janerio celebrates the X' mas season, Reuters news agency reported.

Drug traffickers in Rio slump opended fire on a helicopter carrying a Santa to a children's party, apparently mistaking it for a police helicopter, police officials said. The helicopter, which was found to have two bullets holes in its fuselage, had to return to its base after the attack.

Santa later went to the Nova Mare slum by car to distribute X'mas presents as planned.

What a news for this X'Mas season.

You Dont Exist, Facebook tells a British MP

Hi my friends,

I was reading through our local newspapers and happen to find out this article that is so funny that i wish to share it with you. It is adapted from the TODAY papers dtd 21st Dec 07 and under The Quirky World News.

A British MP has had his Facebook account suspended after the site decided he was not real and accused him of impersonating himself, as reported by Reuters. When Mr Steve Webb, a member of the Liberal Democrat Party, tried to log on to the site, he was told that his account had been disabled following complaints that he did not really exist.

The news was particularly disconcerting to the 42-yr-old politician as not only has he been MP for 10 years but he is also one of the keenest promoters of online networking, using it to keep in touch with constitutuents.

A few hours after his friends set up a Facebook group called "Steve Webb is real", he received an apology from the site and his profile was reactivated. "You realsie the power these organizations really have," he said. "It's actually hard for a genuine person to prove they exist." Seems like online networking is up and rising but these big companies that provide such service would need to spend more efforts to make sure this type of things wont happened again.

All-That-You-Want-To-Know about marketing

Hi,

This is something interesting that i read in an email sent by a good friend sometime back. Was doing my spring-cleaning for my emails mailbox when i came across this one. Enjoy all the truth of Marketing.All-That-You-Want-To-Know about marketing. These strategies weren't taught to me in business school!

What is Marketing?

You see a gorgeous girl at a party.
You go up to her and say, "I am very rich. Marry me!"
That's Direct Marketing.

You're at a party with a bunch of friends and see a gorgeous girl.
One of your friends goes up to her and pointing at you says, "He's
very rich. Marry him."
That's Advertising.

You see a gorgeous girl at a party.
You go up to her and get her telephone number.
The next day you call and say, "Hi, I'm very rich. Marry me."
That's Telemarketing.

You're at a party and see a gorgeous girl.
You get up and straighten your tie; you walk up to her and pour her a drink.
You open the door for her, pick up her bag after she drops it, offer
her a ride, and then say, "By the way, I'm very rich "Will you marry me?"
That's Public Relations.

You're at a party and see a gorgeous girl.
She walks up to you and says, "You are very rich, I want to marry you."
That's Brand Recognition.

You see a gorgeous girl at a party.
You go up to her and say, "I'm rich. Marry me"
She gives you a nice hard slap on your face.
That's Customer Feedback !

Isn't that a good one for the festive season.

Stay tune for more as i unearth more of such emails.

Cheers

Who Says Chemistry is Boring?

Halo,

Have you heard of anyone who said Chemistry and other sciences are boring subjects?
I certainly disagree with that statement and have been relating to others between Chemistry Theories with Real Life examples and applications in order to convince them. Even with all these being done, i still have people coming to me and tell me that Chemistry is boring since there is no movies or songs that revolves around them.

Did we say Songs? Yes. I was searching for material in the internet and came across a song that is related to Chemistry and it has been around for several decades. This is going to be fun for those that study Chemistry before and an eye opener to those that claim we Chemists are boring.

We are talking about The Element Song by Tom Lehrer is an American singer-songwriter, pianist and mathematician. He also lectured on Mathematics and musical theater. Lehrer is best known for the pithy, humorous songs he recorded in the 1950s and 60s. His work often parodied popular song forms, notably in "The Elements", where he sets the names of the chemcial elements to a tune from Gilbert and Sullivan.

Before we start, here is the Lyrics that you might want to sing along with:

There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium
And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium, Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium
And gold, protactinium and indium and gallium
And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.

There's yttrium, ytterbium, actinium, rubidium
And boron, gadolinium, niobium, iridium
And strontium and silicon and silver and samarium,
And bismuth, bromine, lithium, beryllium and barium.

There's holmium and helium and hafnium and erbium
And phosphorous and francium and fluorine and terbium
And manganese and mercury, molybdinum, magnesium,
Dysprosium and scandium and cerium and cesium
And lead, praseodymium, platinum, plutonium,
Palladium, promethium, potassium, polonium,
Tantalum, technetium, titanium, tellurium,
And cadmium and calcium and chromium and curium.

There's sulfur, californium and fermium, berkelium
And also mendelevium, einsteinium and nobelium
And argon, krypton, neon, radon, xenon, zinc and rhodium
And chlorine, cobalt, carbon, copper,
Tungsten, tin and sodium.

These are the only ones of which the news has come to Harvard,
And there may be many others but they haven't been discovered.

How about looking at the position of each elements in the periodic table and see if Tom really covered all the known elements at that time in his The Element Song:

Meaningful Words by The Greats

Halo,

Been busy for the last 2 weeks, attending the 3 days: The Secret of Millionaire Mindset Intensive seminar by world-known T. Harv Eker in Singapore. It was definiately a intriguing experience, how how both Rob(his co-trainer) and himself set the stage to filter all the negatives in our mind, in order for us to think like a millionaire.

Perharps, it is not just thinking as a millionaire that is impt, the crucial point is that it teaches us to think the way our heart says so, and not based on our past conditioning of our mind. Just finish my quarter marathon for Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon. Up to 40, 000 runners are in action today, and i am very proud to be one of those, that continues to pursue my passion!

Will tell you more of the Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar as well as the Standard Chartered Marathon in later posts. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, here is several interesting sets of words spoken by world leaders/great people. Enjoy and feel the difference!
